Richmond – Upon arrival at most theatres, audiences are immediately
informed of what they're not allowed to do: no cell phones, no
photography, no texting, no talking, and to be aware of emergency exits;
occasionally they’re even informed that they can’t put their limbs into the
aisle for fear of impeding an entering actor or tripping passersby.
On July 25, at the performance of Antony & Cleopatra, Richmond
Shakespeare Festival instead will tell patrons what they're invited to do.
The company will host its first ever Social Media night at the 8pm show.
The event is called TweetFromYourSeat!
“It’s designed to explore interactions among audience and artists,” says
Richmond Shakespeare Artistic Director Grant Mudge. “As audience
text, tweet and update their status, those who cannot attend due to
geography or scheduling can participate in an ongoing conversation.”
