The British folk pop duo Turin Brakes are Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian, who were friends in elementary school and shared similar musical tastes. Forming a band, they expanded their sound with inspiration from Sebadoh, Truman's Water, Prince, and the Black Crowes among others. Releasing their first album, 'The Door' in 1999, the duo gained enough ground to eventually perform with a full band at the Reading and Leeds festivals. Turin Brakes would find opening slots with Doves and Kathryn Williams down the road, leading to the worldwide release of 'The Optimist LP' in 2001.
