Drifters welcome: In the Drift Challenge, you slide sideways till the tires burn. Alongside the Drift Competition, where professionals take the wheel, this event is one of the highpoints of the sport auto Tuner Grand Prix. Around 25,000 fans came to Hockenheim at Whitsun 2005, every year a few thousand more come to the Motodrom to cheer the drift specialists in the Sachs curve. This (together with the Spitzkehre hairpin) is the slowest section of the Grand Prix circuit and ideal for drifters: You pick up speed at the entrance to the Motodrom, make the car unstable just before the curve and slide sideways into a drift. Burning rubber, flying stones and a stack of dust.
