An engrossing look at an almost-forgotten theater troop of San Francisco circa 1970. Hippie acid freak drag queens performed at a local theater dressed in rags and glitter. Film makers David Weissman and Bill Weber succeed in making the viewer feel as if he or she is back there tripping along with the rest. Winner of the Los Angeles Film Critics award for Best Documentary of 2002. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone called it "Wildly entertaining". Shown with the Cockette's only film, the 27 minute Tricia's Wedding (1971). This parody of Tricia Nixon's White House Wedding actually premiered the day of the wedding. The White House investigated. Using old third-hand clothes and hastily constructed cardboard sets, these drag queens take on roles of celebrity wedding guests such as Liz Taylor, Mick Jagger, the Pope, the Queen, Phyilis Diller and more. When Earth Kitt pours LSD into the punch, all Hell breaks loose! To die for! Long thought lost, the film is now beautifully restored. A must see!
