Tucker Nichols
May 13 - June 21, 2008.
Opening reception: Thursday May 15th, 6 - 8pm
Lincart Gallery is extremely pleased to present our third solo show with celebrated Bay Area artist Tucker Nichols.
The show will feature a site-specific wall drawing, a window installation, and elegant groupings of his signature “note-to-self” drawings. It will also include text-based painted panels that remind us of the absurdity of our advertising-saturated world. The content of Tucker’s work, whether abstracted or representational, is just loose enough to propel us to discover our own personal connections. As co-owner Charles Linder says, “It’s city mouse meets country mouse in this urban provincialist’s menagerie of skylines and trimmed hedges.”
Tucker has been keeping busy. He is currently featured in a group show at apexart in New York (curated by Dave Eggers), has had a recent solo show at ZieherSmith Gallery (also in New York), and will soon be concluding six months as artist-in-residence at the de Young museum here in San Francisco. His drawings have been published in McSweeney’s, Zoetrope: All Story, Nieves Books, The THING, and The New York Times. Despite his demanding and rigorous art schedule, he still finds time to raise chickens.
