Tu B’Shvat is the “Birthday of the Trees” and has been celebrated many different ways in Jewish history, changing to meet the needs of each generation. As activists working for peace and justice in Israel and Palestine and throughout the world, we join the Jewish tradition of tasting food from trees and remaking tradition by observing Tu B’Shvat as a festival of healing and reparation.
This Tu B'Shvat, Jewish Voice for Peace is launching our Trees of Reconciliation initiative, with the goal of planting 3000 olive saplings in the West Bank this year alone. This campaign is part of our Swords Into Ploughshares campaign, designed to make measurable economic difference as part of our social justice work in Palestine. To kick off our campaign, we've created a special anti-occupation Tu B' Shvat seder, as a political/cultural event. These seders will be happening in at least 10 US cities. Join us on January 21st as we build momentum for justice in the Middle East and everywhere! All are welcome.
We will be providing snacks related to the ceremony, but not dinner, so please eat first! And, we will be raising money for planting olive trees, as well as donating 1/4 of our proceeds to our host, the Cascade People's Center.
