Families are invited to help decorate the official Community Holiday Tree on Saturday, December 5, by bringing home-made ornaments crafted from natural or recycled materials. (The larger the better!) The ornaments will be collected between noon-5pm. Each child donating a homemade ornament will receive a $2 off coupon toward purchase of a ticket to "It's a Wonderful Life", playing at the Hemmens that day. Additional ornament-making activities will be going on in the lower level of the Hemmens with the Elgin Junior Service Board.
The community tree will be officially lit at 5pm, including the arrival of Santa and a performance by the Elgin Children's Chorus. In addition, City-Skate will be offering free skating from noon to 9pm. To get in the spirit of the theme, people are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character from "It's a Wonderful Life". From 3-8pm the Salvation Army will be handing out free hot chocolate and accepting donations of non-perishable food. Also Window Wonderland passports will be passed out at the Tree-lighting!
