Marion Carnegie Library is hosting a Treasure Hunt, presented by the Science Center of Carbondale, on Monday, October 19 at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Each child will receive their “Treasure Map” at the beginning of their “voyage.” After completing a task, they will receive a letter to attach to their treasure map. After completing all six stations, they will have to unscramble the letters to get their next clue. Once they solve that clue, they will receive their “booty!” Activities include a buried treasure drop, drowning pirates, walking the plank, pirate codes, pirate ship construction and parrot handling. Prizes include certificates for free laser tag games from Pirate Pete’s in the Illinois Centre Mall.
The program is sponsored by John A. Logan College’s Family Literacy Program and is made possible by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using state funds designated for adult literacy.
