"Earth's Natural Resources: Power Down, Power Up, Power Over or Power With?"

This month, we are continuing our lively discussion about earth's need for sustainable development, this time with an emphasis on the right use of resources.

We have now shifted our venue to Seattle Center through October 2012 to try out a more centralized location during the center's fifty-year celebration of the Seattle World's Fair of 1962. We would like to thank the Intiman Theater and Seattle Center's Next Fifty team for their gracious offer of this new space, with all of its new possibilites!

The Intiman Theater Conference Room is right to your left as you enter the main lobby from the fountain-decorated courtyard. The courtyard can be reached from walking lanes on both its north and south side coming from Mercer Street near where it crosses 1st Avenue North, as well as east through Seattle Center. There is parking on side streets surrounding Seattle Center, particularly going up Queen Anne Hill, and in the Mercer Parking Garage just north on Mercer across from the Opera and Exhibition Halls. Metro Bus Nos. 1, 2, 13 and 30 come right to the Key Arena bus stop at 1st and Mercer one block north.

We are once again going to begin at 6:30 PM with a potluck, this time of commercially prepared food to respect the rules of Seattle Center. People are welcome to eat as we begin the salon at that time. We also wanted to let anyone attending know that Next Fifty is planning to video some of our proceedings that evening; we will do our best to accommodate those sensitive to being on camera. We are also this time going to do our best to end by 9:30 PM, since Seattle Center staff and volunteers will already be staying later than usual to accommodate our event.

Our two questions for the evening, to be considered by both the panel and small/large groups will be,

Do you think that it would it be wisest for us to approach earth's natural resources with an attitude of expansion, an attitude of limitation or an attitude of appreciation? Why?
Do you think that the perceived need to "power down " rather than "power up" may be caused by "power over" rather than "power with"?
