All Aboard to Train Land!

Come immerse yourself in a day of trains and all that’s related. CanalWay Visitor Center will transform itself into a center full of fact, fun and free entertainment for all ages. Visitors will enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day including model train exhibits – featuring G-scale, HO scale, S-scale and Lego trains. Take a hike on the Hobo Highway or take a guided walk with a cultural interpreter to the Trestle Overlook. Crafts, music, storytelling and a Thomas the Train movie await all who desire to climb aboard the fun.

Children’s train rides will be available for $1. Food and train related vendors will be located at various points throughout the event.

Harkin back to the 1930's when hobos rode the rails and Cleveland had Shantytown. Follow “Conrad the Conductor” as he introduces you to a select few of the hobos in Cleveland along the hobo trail and how they live. Meet “Stone Soup Sally Huttner,” the cook and storyteller of the group from the south. If you ask, she may share the story of her name sake. “Pete Moss,” expullman worker and exfarmer, who now is looking for The Big Rock Candy Mountain and will play and sing this song for you on his harmonica. “James ‘Professor’ Young, who the hobos go to for advice and wisdom, he has a lot to say, but he is a mystery as to where he has traveled and where he lives. Finally, “Apple Annie Reynolds,” she travels alone on the rails, loves children, and tries to sell her apples to everyone, even though we are not sure where she gets them.
