Traditionally trained master carpenter, Dale Brotherton, will demonstrate Japanese carpentry techniques and speak about integrating the ancient tradition of Japanese woodworking into the culture of the Pacific Northwest and the United States. Dale was trained in Takayama, Japan, and then returned to the United States to start Takumi Company, his design/build firm in Seattle, WA. Dale does much of the construction and repair work at the Portland Japanese Garden and in the week following his demonstration, he will be replacing the sliding wooden doors of the Pavilion.
