The Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University is hosting a solo exhibition highlighting wall sculpture by artist Tracy Heneberger. The show is a survey of three-dimensional art created by the artist over the past twelve years in various media including; bronze, wood, aluminum, stone and organic materials such as fish. Heneberger often uses iterations of materials that organize smaller parts into a well-ordered whole of line, pattern, color and shape. By combining natural elements in rhythmic ways, the end result is at once rich in detail, and yet elegantly simple.

“Tracy’s work is all about exploration and discovery” notes curator, Jeanne Brasile. “He patiently collects the raw materials for his art in forests, at beaches and in markets. In his Brooklyn studio, he then classifies his finds, organizing them into ordered groups. The finished work appears to be an intuitive arrangement of similar units, but a closer look reveals a thoughtful arrangement arrived at through a process that is pain-staking and carefully contemplated.” In Heneberger’s work, mushrooms appear out of sculptures that from afar seem to be landscapes. Branch forms morph into arrangements of anchovy up close. Overall, his work reveals a principal concern with order. Tracy Heneberger is currently featured in “Dead or Alive,” the critically acclaimed show at The Museum of Arts and Design in New York. It is on view through October 24th, 2010.
