Tracing Time: Luis Camnitzer, José Guillermo Castillo and Liliana Porter
October 18, 2008 – March 8, 2009
As a special complement to The New York Graphic Workshop exhibition, Tracing Time examines art created after the dissolution of the NYGW collective, and explores documentation and the passage of time. After 1970, Camnitzer, Castillo and Porter all continued to investigate ideas of process, the democratization of art and audience participation, although each of their aesthetics were completely different.
Camintzer's Uruguayan Torture Series focuses on the long-term effects of physical and psychological abuse, Castillo's etchings with watercolor depict the sky seen through a window, capturing a specific moment in time, and Porter's prints and mixed media works comment on stasis and spontaneity.
