Towards a More Secure, Reliable, and Performant Web: Tools and Approaches to Help Us Get There September 22, 2010

Hi there, folks -

I'd like to announce a special meetup on September 22nd, starting at
6:30pm:

"Towards a More Secure, Reliable, and Performant Web: Tools and
Approaches to Help Us Get There"

As the web continues to evolve and mature, and sites adopt new
frameworks and technologies, developers and QA alike must also evolve
their testing strategies if they are to help ensure high quality
websites and applications.

Stephen Donner, from the WebQA team, and Michael Coates, from Web
Application Security, will introduce and
demonstrate several tools the teams use to complement their testing
approaches (many of which are free add-ons hosted on
Mozilla’s own Add-ons website).

A sampling of what will be covered:
* how to look for CSRF (and what it is)
* how to test for XSS holes
* how to test for SQL-injection vulnerabilities
* how to painlessly fuzz a web application
* how to both read *and* manipulate HTTP headers
* how to easily and quickly validate webpages/sites, both for
structure and working links
* how to help developers increase performance by 25-50%
* free sites/tools to help load/stress test (brief overview)

Please feel free to bring your laptops and follow along, and don’t
hesitate to ask questions and share your insight, along the way.

We will start with pizza and mingling at 6:30 PM and then start the
talk promptly at 7 PM. Please note that this event will be held on the
2nd Floor of the 650 Castro Street building, not the usual place on
the third floor. The doors to 650 Castro lock at 7 PM so please call
650-903-0800 x5200 if you cannot access the building. We have wifi
access so feel free to bring your laptops.

Also, since we are ordering food I ask that a "Yes" RSVP indicates
that you will attend. Please adjust your RSVP to "No" if you will be
unable to attend the event. Thanks for your cooperation.
