Toughcats come from the islands of North Haven and Vinalhaven, 12 miles off the coast of Maine. They are a nationally touring indie Americana rock trio and have released two albums, with a third on the way. In 2006, they released their first full-length album, Piñata. In 2010, Toughcats released Run to the Mill, and in September 2012, Woodenball, recorded and mixed by Nelson and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Spoon, Andrew Bird, Magnetic Fields).
