2011 marked our first Touch-a-Truck Event at Cleveland Metroparks and it was a roaring success. The weather threatened but held off and the people came out. In just a few hours we had 2,962 children of all ages pass through our event, climbing on equipment and just plain enjoying themselves. Horns were sounding off all day as if to say “welcome to the show.” The sandbox for the tikes became a testing ground for future equipment operators. And our event sponsors were ever so pleased to have been included.
For 2012 we’ll repeat a showcase of our equipment used in the daily care of our precious Cleveland Metroparks. Several departments will be recognized from within Cleveland Metroparks, highlighting Operations Maintenance, Golf Turf, Natural Resources, Law Enforcement, and Outdoor Education among others. The sandbox has become a permanent fixture of our event. Our event sponsors will have on display their wares for your perusal. NatureTracks and our EcoExplorer van will be here again along with EarthWords.
If you’re a returning participant you’ll notice a few changes and possibly a surprise or two. We’ll have food and drink available if you develop an appetite. And don’t forget your camera. You can never accumulate enough smiling faces!
For 2012 we will be asking a few questions via a questionnaire which will be made available as you enter our event. Please take a few moments of time to show your support. We value you and your opinion.
So if you’re looking for something fun to do, join us. You’ll have a great time too. Hope to see you then.
