A Lady Takes a Chance 1943 dir William Seiter w. Jean Arthur, John Wayne, Phil Silvers
A wide-eyed city gal hooks up with a rough and ready rodeo cowboy on her bus vacation but she has to compete with his sidekicks-including his horse! Silvers has a standout role as the obnoxious tour operator and Wayne reveals he more than capable light comedic side.
Salty O'Rourke 1945 dir. Raoul Walsh w. Alan Ladd, Gale Russell, William Demarest
After his partner leaves Salty holding a bag of debt to the mob, the smooth talking con man dreams up a complicated plot involving a banned jockey, an un-rideable horse and a big race. It gets a lot more complicated when the pretty schoolteacher walks by. All bets are off. Oscar nominated for best original screenplay.
