All the elements in the film universe come together here in Garbo's quintessential screen portrayal of the controversial Swedish monarch who gives up everything for love. Garbo insisted on having her old lover Gilbert in the film in what turned out to be his last great film before the final slide. Stunningly photographed by the great William Daniels, this film is still a MUST SEE masterpiece after more than 75 years.
