Hitchcock combines classic thriller techniques with his trademark black humour in this adaptation of the Josephine Tey novel of a young girl helping a runaway man prove his innocence. Echoes of the 39 Steps run throughout.
The Franchise Affair 1952 directed by Lawrence Huntington with Michael Dension, Dulcie Gray
Based on another of Tey's great novels, an initally reluctant lawyer takes on a strange case of kidnapping and abuse over the increasing rancour of the village. Rarely seen.
