THE CONCEPT

once upon a time tootekool journeyed to china with his minimal kicks,
he found in this far eastern land a well known performer called B6.

after hearing each other’s melodies they resolved to play together downtown,
but during the night their music was so hot that it made the club burn down.

by this tragic accident the spirits of tootekool and B6 were lost,
and as they entered into the gates of heaven they magically criss-crossed.

through eternities of time and space they came finally upon the miracle of rebirth,
favoured with the graces of heaven, the new spirit came back down to earth.

ready to enjoy the new splice of life, this soul will play cool musical tricks,
now this season it’s time to be refreshed by the name you know, of course it’s toote6

THE ARTISTS

tootekool and B6 are both known in the shanghai electronic music scene for their cutting edge sounds. now for the first time, they will co-present an unforgettable night full of minimal dance action.

tootekool’s music began at the age of six when he created mix tapes from the radio. his love for music led quickly into a passion, to this day he has invested all his time working with this invisible media. his style is formed by german house music, known to be the precursor of electronic music. in this genre he soon began to collect his own records.

seeking the ability to create his own ideas in music, and inspired by his huge musical background, tootekool finally started producing by himself in 2003.

tootekool has spun records in clubs all over germany, e.g. frankfurt [his hometown], hamburg and berlin; and also in luxembourg, antwerp [belgium] and in paris at the legendary “batofar” (together with “sieg über die sonne”). during his time in germany he was supported by “good groove music”, a renowned german booking agency.

since early 2004 tootekool has lived in shanghai following his vision to bring modern electronic music to china. in 2005 he founded the very successful “micro” parties, and has since held several residencies at clubs like “fabrique”, “madam zung” and “tanghui”.

B6 is the most famous producer and dj of IDM and glitch music in shanghai, his reputation as an innovative electronic musician has spread throughout mainland china and beyond. continuing to explore musical production, B6 is currently working on new material and he says: “my own style is changing – the new music is a bit more minimal glitch meets german minimal-techno!”

in 1997 at the tender age of 16, B6 was the first in china of his generation to work with the new electronic music that was heard from europe

dedicatedly seeking out the analogue equipment needed, B6 created a number of different musical projects over the years. he has collaborated with local musicians whom he turned on to this new sound:
“aitar” – industrial noise / ambient
“dust box” – soundscape / minimal / ambient
“ISMU” (Intelligent Shanghai Mono University) – mail art / experimental electronic

all these artists have been released, with unique B6 artwork, on underground labels in china. by import they have sold in europe and japan.

even with these achievements, it was his solo work that really brought him the most attention. the “B6 Boxset” comprises his solo work collection from 2001-2005.

meanwhile, in shanghai, there is “IGO” – B6 is working with a vocalist (shock horror!). this is china’s first electro-crash synth-pop band.
