A festival of adventurous music and sound performance. The 2006 festival will encompass two storefront exhibitions in Kingston's downtown area and three evenings of live performances.
2006 Performers:
Wendy Luella Perkins (Kingston) has developed a practice she refers to as Soulful Singing. Perkins will lead members of this group, and any other amateur or professional singers who wish to participate, in a singing session held in the Artillery Park swimming pool.
Lenni Jabour (Kingston) is a vibrant singer-songwriter in the cabaret tradition. She will perform a selection of her work, accompanying herself on piano.
Tom Sherman (Syracuse NY/Nova Scotia) will perform a series of monologues from his H5N1 series, a suite of two minute exercises in hyper-paranoia. The content of these texts is simultaneously terrifying and funny, pushing the culture of fear to new levels of anxiety.
Laura Kavanaugh and Ian Birse (Calgary) will work throughout the week on a Kingston version of their Removable Room project, a portrait of the city made on the spot over several days with sounds, video, still images, and found objects collected on walks around the downtown area, culminating in a live performance which will be streamed on the internet.
Michael Schumacher (New York City) will present a new version of his ongoing installation work Room Pieces, also culminating in a live performance The work consists of about 200 audio components that are re-assembled to create a specific instance of the piece.
Wet Gate (San Francisco) are a three-person performance group (Peter Conheim, Steve Dye and Owen O'Toole) which employs 16mm projectors to create multiple-screen projection pieces accompanied with live electronic music. In Kingston they will present a performance on the walls of the Artillery Park swimming pool.
