Exhibition Dates: September 11 - October 2, 2010

White Walls Gallery is pleased to present Tomorrow is Never Promised, a solo exhibition by San Francisco based artist, Erik Otto. The artist addresses the idea of facing personal fears in order to make the necessary shifts to reach one's true potential and to realign one's life towards real progress. The exhibition will be comprised of approximately 30 mixed media pieces, an installation and a limited edition screen print. The opening reception for Tomorrow is Never Promised will be held at White Walls Gallery on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 7-11 pm. The exhibit will be on display through October 2, 2010 and is free and open to the public.

Erik Otto's work is an observation of the human experience that is continually informed by the pressures and demands of the outside world. Otto creates his art to openly engage the viewer by communicating the shared struggle we all encounter to connect our awakened state to our desires found within. In constructing his pieces with found and salvaged materials, he expresses the personal satisfaction he receives from discovering use out of the “unusable”. In his new exhibition, Tomorrow is Never Promised, the artist illustrates the themes of living in the present, times of solitude and, self-fulfillment versus self-destruction. The works will also depict the transient nature of time and how it dictates the uncertainty of life. The pieces for the exhibition are composed of house paint, spray paint, pencil, collage and screen print on recycled canvas or panel framed in reclaimed fence wood. All of the material for the show is sourced from Recology San Francisco as well as the "free" section on Craigslist.org.

Erik Otto received his BFA from San Jose State University and currently lives and works in San Francisco, California. He has recently been commissioned by Dwell Magazine for their Dwell on Design show as well as Microsoft for their Seattle Headquarter. In 2009 Otto was awarded a residency with Recology San Francisco and will be exhibiting in their 20 Year Anniversary Show in July 2010. The artist has shown nationally with The Shooting Gallery, Fabric 8 Galleries and Charmingwall Gallery.
