Tom Malm has been at it longer than most. He began in 1971 fronting a '50's-oriented rock and roll band, played his original works in a folk/blues-styled duet, latched on to an emerging Grateful Dead cover band and formed Moms House of Burgers, a hard-edged blues-rock band that appeared in all of the Charleston, SC areas major venues and received regular radio play.
In the 90s, the music industry publication, "Playback" featured a story on Tom written by the legendary Guitar Player writer, Tom Mulhearn. Blue Oyster Cult and former Black Sabbath drummer, Bobby Rondinelli, once said Tom was like the mayor of the music industry. He has gone shoe shopping with Keb Mo, drawn-up football plays for Bob Weir, gotten diet advice from Allen Woody and helped Warren Haynes Christmas shop for his brother. He has helped to shape the guitar sound of session artists in Nashville to Panteras Dimebag Darrell. The Delta Blues Museum honored him for his contributions in preserving the memory of the early instruments of the genre from the 1920s and 1930s.

When a music aficionado hears Society Beat, theyll know where the sound comes from. Theyll smile at the clever ways the influences are presented, and look forward to where they are going. With the August 2007 release of their CD, Brother Luke & the Long Ride Home, Society Beat has been beating a path from venue-to-venue touring the east coast from New England to the Deep South.
