Everyone is welcome to join the Friends Of Middleton Park on a walk (approx. 3 miles) through the industrial and community history of the park.
Middleton park has a rich history - including very early coal mining (using "bell pits" where holes were dug into the ground with simple tools - you can still see where they were dug), the world's first railway (the middleton railway still runs, but it was originally built for transporting coal), and there are still the remains on the leeds tram system that used to run through the park.
The walk starts from the Lakeside Centre at 2pm and will be led by Alan Shaw.
Or just join us at the Lakeside Centre for refreshments.
