Lulubell Toy Bodega is proud to be presenting David Christiana in the first solo show of his personal work in Tucson, AZ, entitled “To Have and To Hold”. Additionally, “To Have and To Hold” will be the only single-artist exhibition that Lulubell will be displaying during the 2010 season. The exhibit will have an opening reception on Saturday, March 6th from 6 to 9 in the evening. The show will run through the duration of the month and end on March 31st. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 12 to 6 pm.

David Christiana’s life is a blur of activities that include professor-ing at University of Arizona, illustrating twenty some picture books and counting, writing, and wrestling with, among other things, the desert. He draws to shave the fuzz off his existence, looking for things languid and still that might bring his own personal blur into focus.
Mr. Christiana’s extensive career has included many accomplishments, such as having his books translated into over 30 languages and reaching a readership in over 60 countries. Some of his more recent books, published through Disney, have reached the New York Times’ Best-Sellers List. Along with exhibiting his work in galleries around the country, he has been on faculty at the University of Arizona since 1991. He has also won many awards from several prestigious institutions including a Certificate of Merit from the Society of Illustrators and an Award of Excellence from Applied Arts Magazine Illustration and Photography Annual, among others.
The work Mr. Christiana will be presenting in “To Have and To Hold” will range in both size and medium. From large-scale oil paintings to smaller tempera paintings, etchings and drawings, Mr. Christiana’s work has an original voice and an expansive vision. The work he is currently producing is part of the Visual Literature movement that explores modes of storytelling, character development and situational conundrums without client dictates.
