The Carthage Wind Orchestra is undertaking a special musical tour in April to perform an accompaniment to the 1927 classic silent film, Metropolis. The tour opens in Downers Grove, Illinois, at Classic Cinemas Tivoli Theatre, located at 5021 Highland Ave., on Thursday April 8, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Running time for the film is two hours. Tickets are available for purchase at Tivoli Theatre; $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. Metropolis, directed by German director Fritz Lang, offers a futuristic look and dramatic appeal that has fascinated audiences for over 80 years. The film takes place in 2026, when the citys population has been divided between the poor who live and work far below the surface, and the rich who enjoy the wealth and luxury of living in the above ground city. Tensions escalate between the two classes, and the city is driven into turmoil. Resolution is only achieved through the ability of the son of citys governor to act as mediator and restore hope to the city. Music for the accompaniment is taken from the works of W. Francis McBeth, a distinguished American composer noted for his dramatic style of writing. Come early and enjoy preshow music by Tivoli Theatres house organist David Rhodes on the might Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ. This is a not-to-miss performance from the Carthage Wind Orchestra together with this timeless classic. Carthage is a private college of the liberal arts and sciences, affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
