Anna Halprin: Blank Placard Happening
8:30 pm, Meet inside PNCA Commons

Join in a reenactment of Blank Placard Happening, a performance by pioneering artist Anna Halprin, originally performed by the San Fransicso Dancer's Workshop in 1968. Thirty years later, this simple but powerful choreographic score for pedestrians still resonates with a country at war and on the eve of a presidential election.

Participants are encouraged to wear white and bring their own blank white sign. No previous performance or dance experience is required. The happening participants will parade one mile from PNCA Commons across the Broadway Bridge to THE WORKS at Leftbank ((240 N Broadway).

Anna Halprin's career has spanned the field of dance since the late 1930s, creating revolutionary directions for the art form and inspiring fellow choreographers to take modern dance to new dimensions. At the age of 87, Halprin continues to perform, teach, travel and make revolutionary work exploring the beauty of the aging body and its relationship to nature.

Once the white clad participants of Blank Placard Happening arrive at Leftbank, Deelay Ceelay take to the stage at THE WORKS, and downstairs in our TBA galleries, the ON SIGHT program opens. Drop in or stay all night for performances by Flash Choir and DJ Acidophilus.

9:30 PM - Deelay Ceelay
Let the video do the talking. Let the music speak for itself. Let the screen take center stage, the projectors explode, the technology sing. Let the audience have a say. Unplug the microphones. Let the drums lead the way.

Deelay Ceelay presents Deelay Ceelay Have Nothing to Say, a collaboration between video artist/musician Chris Lael Larson and percussionist Delaney Kelly, fusing live instrumentation with synched projected visuals. Deelay Ceelay blur the divide between music, experimental film and performance while emphasizing the creation of a two-way exchange with audiences through video personas, SMS messaging-based interactivity and the Deelay Ceelay Art Exchange Initiative.

The duo have performed/screened in over 30 cities across the U.S., with work appearing at the Berkeley Museum of Art, the Portland Documentary and Experimental Film Festival, the Experimental Media and Movement Arts Lab, PICA and the Northwest Film Center. Have Nothing to Say includes songs from the Deelay Ceelay debut CD/DVD release Touch Down Thank You, which will be released via the non-monetary Deelay Ceelay Art Exchange Initiative the night of the performance.

10:30 PM - Flash Choir
The Flash Choir was founded in July 2007 in the service of PICA's TBA:07 opening celebration piece composed by Rinde Eckert. The Choir's on-going manifestation is led by Sarah Dougher and Pat Janowski; they continue to experiment and find both traditional and experimental ways to sing together. This performance will feature a piece written by Dougher called Caesar's Gate, based on the work of Jess and Robert Duncan, and commissioned in May 2008 by the Douglas F. Cooley Gallery at Reed College.

11:00 PM - DJ Acidophilus
A member of NYC's GlobeSonic Sound System since 2000, Acidophilus spins internationally-infused sets of hyphen-laden global dance music. In addition to such NY venues as nublu, Riverside Park South, Joe's Pub and Paisley, Acidophilus has dj-ed internationally in some of the homes of his music, including Recife, Brazil; Monterrey, Mexico; Arusha, Tanzania; and Berlin, Germany, and shared the bill with such artists as Dengue Fever, Carlinhos Brown, The Gipsy Kings, Antibalas, Aterciopelados, Yerba Buena, DJ Dolores, and DJ Peretz (aka Perry Farrell). In his real life guise as Bill Bragin, he is Director of Public Programming at Lincoln Center, co-founder of globalFEST, and former director of Joe's Pub at The Public Theater.
