There are lots of paths leading to the Timbral Hut. This is a living room sized ensemble. A small kids drum set, acoustic bass, a few guitars, tablas, African Percussion and assorted other noise producing devices set up on a familiar rug, direct from the studio/garage in Corvallis Oregon where the group has convened the past six years.
Singer/songwriter, jazz, folk, African, Tibetan bells, poetry and other styles/forms are digestibles for this free flowing group. The group plays clubs, street corners and parties and has recently had its music used in film (Old Town Diary (directed by Brian Lindstrom) and with dance. (choreographed by Mara Bateman University of Oregon)
Timbral Hut is:
Monica Metzler (guitar, percussion, piano)
Nick Rivard (bass, percussion, guitar)
Chris Rorrer (cello, percussion.)
Dave Storrs (percussion)
Timbral Hut is whoever shows/whatever happens - the band and crowd. A village for the evening. The moment.
Playing the song in front of us.
The group also perform songs from Oceanic - Monica Metzler’s’ new release. Oceanic is the thirty sixth release on Louie Records. These adventurous musical outings have gathered critical national acclaim since 1996 and offer the attentive listener distinctive sounds that can move us to deeper places.
“… freedom is the main thing... we're playing in the sandbox.. It's all about letting go. It's not about worrying about what’s happening in the music industry.”
Dave Storrs (Oregonian)
