May is the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. To commemorate the occasion the Thursday Afternoon Film Series will flashback 50 years to Jamestowns 350th anniversary and show films that debuted in 1957. The movies will be screened in the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street, at 2 p.m. every Thursday throughout the month. This glossy soap opera about the tawdry goings-on in a complacent New England town is based on the scandalous novel by Grace Metalious. The movie was a huge hit and was nominated for 9 Academy Awards. Lana Turner stars with a telegenic cast that includes Lee Philips, Russ Tamblyn, Hope Lange and Diane Varsi.
