This art project is an initiative to provide exposure and opportunity to 40 children from 4 children-related NGOs - Nanhi Kali (supporting the girl child), the Education Audiology and Research Society or EAR (which detects babies at birth with a hearing problem), Mumbai Mobile Creches - MMC (for kids on construction sites) and CHIP Mumbai (working with kids from BMC schools) to explore their own creativity by redesigning the buildings and structures around them.
A few days back, the participating children from these NGOs explored the architecture by walking through the city taking photographs and discussing the visual and architectural characteristics. Afterwards they reviewed the architectural details when viewing the photos taken by them during the city walk. They study the structure, perspective and compositions to solve the problem of redesigning the city buildings. After several discussions and brain storms on how buildings can be redesigned using wild colors, textures, patterns, decorations etc. the children are currently participating in a 3 day workshop under the guidance of artist Shital Mehta at Shantivan Garden. Here they are creating their own artwork in mixed media (Drawing, painting, collage or printing) depicting a building, cityscape or a city block.
The students use existing work of architecture as a springboard for creating a new creative, colorful, wild look for the buildings to make the city look almost a dream city!
The outcome of this art camp will culminate into an Art Exhibition at Hacienda Art Gallery on 16th November 2010 as a launch evening for the ten day charity event called SHINE ON
