This exhibition offers a special chance to see one of Thomas Cole's masterworks that is rarely on public view. One of America's great artists, Cole is considered the father of landscape painting in the United States. Peace at Sunset, painted in 1827, is one of his classic views of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. On loan from the De Young Museum, Peace at Sunset showcases Cole's masterful ability to capture the spirit of the American wilderness.
