St. Martin's Chamber Choir presents "This Joyful Eastertide", featuring Edmund Rubbra's striking, powerful Missa in Honorem Sancti Dominici. The concerts will be Friday, April 4th, 7:30 p.m., St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 1350 Washington St., Denver, and Sunday, April 6th, 7:30 p.m., St. Elizabeth's Church, 1060 St. Francis Way, Auraria Campus, Denver. To mark the most celebratory season of the Christian year St. Martin's also will present Gregorian chant, Heinrich Biber's Tenebrae factae sunt, Crux fidelis by King John IV of Portugal, Sigismund Biechteler's Victimae Paschali laudes, Johann Michael Bach's "I know that my redeemer", and Alles was Odem hat by Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach. Also included on the program are Easter anthems by Charles Wood and Samuel Barber for single and double choir, including Wood's "This Joyful Eastertide" and Barber's "Easter Chorale".
As a special treat St. Martin's will be joined by Arvada West High School's select choir, "Vocal Showcase", for the J.M. Bach piece and for Terry Schlenker's Alleluia. The students from Arvada West have worked with St. Martin's singers in several intensive workshops this year during SMCC's residency project at the school.
