New music ensemble, thingNY presents three world premiere commissions by three young composers, including thingNY's own Andrew Livingston and Jeffrey Young, and Philadelphia's prolific Joseph Hallman.
Hallman describes his new work tritticothingo as being “written for the inestimable thingNY. It is a series of three movements for clarinets, saxes, soprano, tenor, violin, and bass. Though it utilizes voice it does not use text.”
Jeffrey Young's Travels with Fascists and Pure-Hearted Souls is scored for solo violin/voice/laptop + thingNY. In contrast to Young's “collection of ardent, restless, forceful, austere and vivacious essays/excursions”, Andrew Livingston's sublime Blessed? is a disquieting setting of psalms.
Following the performances, there will be a reception and Q&A with the composers.
thingNY creates, promotes and performs bold and imaginative experimental and improvisational concert art music of the highest caliber. It is a champion of the music of emerging and established composers, and collaborates interdisciplinarily with other artists in order to bring new music to new audiences.
