Thermal 302: Solar Water Heating Design and Installation

Once you have the foundation of solar water heating from Thermal 301, join us for this three day course which will combine lecture and lab installations. We will cover specific design considerations for domestic hot water and space heating. This series of classes is intended to prepare the professional plumber to properly locate and install a system upon completion. This class is taught to the NABCEP task analysis which can be found on the NABCEP website. A copy of the book:Solar Water Heating, Comprehensive Guide is including in the price of tuition.

Prerequisite: You must take Thermal 301 before you take this class. If you have a certificate of completion from an ISP accredited program, please provide your certificate and we can accept that as the prerequisite for our Thermal 302 class. Or if you have at least two years of design and installation of solar thermal systems, please send us documentation and we can count that toward your prerequisite as well. Also, each student will be expected to have basic plumbing, electrical, and roofing skills. (Specifically, knowledge of basic plumbing tasks such as soldering pipe joints, gluing pipe joints, sealing fittings, testing for plumbing leaks, etc. In regards to electrical, the installer should be familiar with basic electrical concepts and terms and with the operation of a multimeter. Also included is the ability to connect wiring, create weather sealed connections, etc. Regarding roofing knowledge, the installer should be familiar with basic roof materials, terminologies as well as flashing and sealing methods.)This class does not teach plumbing fundamentals.
