COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO TO HOST
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CHICAGO THEATRE
MAY 18-21, 2011
The Theatre Department of Columbia College Chicago, with the support of Columbia’s School of Fine and Performing Arts, will host “Chicago: Theatre Capital of America—Past. Present. Future,” a scholarly symposium on the development of Chicago theatre from grassroots movement to global phenomenon. Scheduled for May 18–21, 2011, the event will bring scholars and professionals from around the country and overseas to Chicago for four days of presentations, panels, and performances.
The symposium will focus on Chicago’s rise as a center of theatrical creativity, innovation, and influence over the past 50 years and explore ideas for possible new directions for theatre in an atmosphere of rapidly increasing technological development and international communication.
Columbia College Chicago is located in the culturally vibrant South Loop. We are within easy walking distance to the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, the Goodman Theatre, Symphony Center, the historic Auditorium Theatre and Chicago Cultural Center, and beautiful Grant Park and Millennium Park, as well as jazz and blues clubs and other attractions. We are also located conveniently near a wide range of hotels and restaurants. The symposium agenda has been planned to ensure that attendees have time to enjoy the city as well as attend an array of thoughtful and provocative presentations.
