Antaryatra
India Foundation for the Arts presents
Antaryatra, directed and performed
by Usha Ganguli. A Sangeet
Akademi awardee, Usha Ganguli
leads the theatre group
Rangakarmee. Trained as a dancer
in the classical Indian modes, she
strikes the delicate balance between
formal rhythm and reality in the raw.
In the play, she attempts to explore
the Indian woman’s psyche through
a melange of characters. Ganguli
has played a variety of women
characters on stage and her
experiences obviously enrich her
one-woman show. Antaryatra is a
tribute to at least a dozen crucial
female heroines played by Ganguli
who are representatives of real-life
women — each one belonging to a
distinct social space and yet bound
in by the virtue of being a woman at Bangalore.
