You’re in for a thrill when you attend Youth Music Monterey’s (YMM) Fall concert held on Sunday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sunset Center in Carmel. The music for this concert highlights the dynamic range of the orchestras through marches and dances. Opening the concert is the Youth Orchestra featuring the majestic trumpets in the Grand March from Aida. They will also perform Chopin’s Les Sylphides, and conclude with the Russian Sailor’s Dance from the Red Poppy by Gliere.
The second portion of the concert will feature the Honors Orchestra performing the popular Rossini piece, The Barber of Seville Overture, Smetana’s Three Dances from the Bartered Bride and their interpretation of Enescu’s First Romanian Rhapsody based on folk dance music. Listen for the dance episodes played by the string players which sound as if a group of gypsy players suddenly emerge from the orchestra to the front of stage! This piece also features our talented horn and wind section including clarinetist, Perry Choi who will perform Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major as the featured concerto soloist for the orchestra’s second concert on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sunset Center. March down to your local Bookmark or contact YMM to purchase tickets for the liveliest classical concerts of the season!
November 15th is the first of three concerts of the season which features nearly 100 of the top musicians throughout the greater Monterey Peninsula and conducted by professional conductor John Larry Granger who was named “Best Conductor” for his distinctive disciplines which has lifted the orchestra to the highest artistic level possible for its budget range. We look forward to seeing you at the concert!
