So you think you might have the best chili in Richmond? You could win a prize if you do.....
There are 3 Cash Prizes:
$1000 for "Best Professional Chili"
$1000 for "Best Amateur Chili"
$500 for "Best Booth"

Here's how it works.
There are two categories of cooks, amateur and professional (affiliated with a licensed restaurant). Either way you need to do three things in order to participate.
1. You will need to fill out an application:
Download the application HERE!

2. You will need to apply to the Henrico County Health Department for a temporary Restaurant Permit. There is a $40 application fee that coincides with applying, but don’t worry, we’ll pay that.
Download the temporary food permit application HERE!

3. You will need to prove that you are a certified food handler. For professionals this means providing some sort of documentation that certifies you passed a food handling class. For amateurs, this means passing a demonstration of knowledge test administered by the Henrico County Health Department.
Download the temporary food regulations HERE!

4. You will need to provide a seperate $50 deposit check upon registration. This will be returned after checking in the morning of the Chili Cook Off.

You will also need to attend one of the mandatory Chili Cook Off meetings. These cook meetings will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 24th and Wednesday, March 31st at Clear Channel Radio 3245 Basie Road Richmond, VA 23228. One of your team members must attend at least one of these meetings.

Cut off for Chili Cook Registration will be on Wednesday, March 31st.

We will be discussing other guidelines with the Henrico County Police and Fire departments at our cook meetings.

IF YOU'RE IN:
There are three basic cook rules:
Your area must be set up and all vehicles are out of the midway by 10:00am
You are required to cook at least 60 gallons of chili
There has to be one cook at your tent that does not consume any alcohol

We will provide:

1 10x10 Tent
1 8 ft. Table

2 Chairs

Electricity at a cost of $20 per outlet needed. (Please submit separate check for power)

Things you will be responsible for providing:

A valid ID. Everyone over 21 must be wrist banded.
A functioning fire extinguisher, rated at least 2A 10BC and that meets Henrico County’s Health, Fire and Public Safety guidelines
Your utensils and cooking supplies
Your ingredients including water
Bleach, hand sanitizer and plastic gloves
Spoons and serving cups to dispense the chili. (The smaller, the better; that way your chili will last longer) We recommend cups of a 1 oz size or smaller.
GOOD LUCK!
