Have you ever stopped mid-crosswalk, looked at the rapidly changing, growing, and moving metropolis around you and thought, how does this all work? Kate Ascher's The Works: Anatomy of a City (The Penguin Press; November 7th, 2005; $35.00) answers questions about the way things function in the modern city, from how the electricity works to where the garbage goes, shedding light on the traditionally obscure-but critically important-parts of municipal life. Introductions and discussion led by Amanda Burden, Chair of the New York City Planning Commission and Director of the Department of City Planning.
Organized by: Center for Architecture
