The Uptown Party Down, FUNK FEST @ Sullivan Hall July 21, 2011

Come enjoy a high-energy night of funk and dance music! The Uptown Party Down, an 8-piece funk machine indigenous to Harlem, will be creating a musical tornado for you to shake and sweat to on Thursday, July 21st. If you'd like to come early and warm your dance moves up for the UTPD, the doors open at 7pm.

"The Uptown Party Down has been gaining fast momentum on the NYC music scene as the next funky party band to emerge in the City.. Comprised of 8 musicians (almost all with master's degrees in jazz), they throw caution and formality to the wind with their high-energy live performances. Their sound could best be described as a synth and bass driven dance machine, with frantic horn lines on the verge of bebop madness but using just enough restraint to leave audiences wanting more. Canadian Frontman Alex Birnie deftly plays his role as the ringleader, keeping his troops in line, always conscious of moving the party forward and crooning audiences with his soaring, soulful tenor.
