Omali Yeshitela, leader of the Uhuru Movement, will speak on Darfur and the current conflicts in Sudan. The Uhuru Movement founder has spent much of the last year traveling and speaking in Africa and Europe on proposals to solve the crises of poverty and war throughout Africa by merging Africa's microstates into a single nation.
Sudan, Africa's largest country, is rich in oil, gold, silver and copper. It's fertile land includes mountains, rain forests and most of the water flow from the Nile River, but its people face starvation and widespread displacement.
Yeshitela contends that the resources of African are the birthright of African people everywhere. He suggests that the re-establishment of indigenous control over the continent's vast natural resources will enable a revival of the rich and advanced African civilizations of pre-colonial times.
In his Philadelphia presentation the Uhuru leader will review the history of the region, identify the forces behind the current crisis and offer proposals for local action in support of the
struggle for African control of African resources.
He will be joined by author Penny Hess ("Overturning the Culture of Violence"), who will present slides and discussion on Africa's colonial past and the current economics behind the violence.
This event starts at 7:30 pm and is free and open to the public.
