Divided into three segments titled “Children,” “Madonna and Child” and “Death and Transfiguration,” Terence Davies’ highly celebrated trio of shorts follows the life of Robert Tucker (played by Phillip Mawdsley, Terry O’Sullivan and Wilfrid Brambell) as he grows up attending an austere boys school, becomes an office worker as a young man while still living at home and grappling with his closeted homosexuality, and finally, deals with the death of his mother and confronts his own weakening health. Winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the 1984 Locarno International Film Festival. [35mm]
