Dr. James Sulikowski, Assist. Professor of Biological Sciences, University of New England
The spiny dogfish population was not supposed to rebound before 2020. However, surprising population increases have already occurred. Dr. Sulikowski will lead a discussion on the causes and dramatic increases of this voracious predator, and the implications for the ecosystem and commercial fishing in the Gulf of Maine.
The New England Aquarium will host a series of educational lectures and films delivered by well respected colleagues, scientists, professors and biologists from various aquatic fields. Topics of discussion will include coral reef extinction, ecosystems, marine mammal life and more. The New England Aquarium is a global leader in ocean exploration and marine conservation. The Aquarium Lecture Series is presented free to the public through the generosity of the Lowell Institute. Programs will begin at 7 p.m. in the Harborside Learning Lab, located at the New England Aquarium, Central Wharf, Boston, unless otherwise noted. A reception with light refreshments will follow each presentation. For questions, or for more information, visit www.neaq.org or call, (617) 973-5200.
