Walter Salas-Humara and Bob Rupe formed the Silos in 1985. Their raw, catchy, melodic brand of folk-rock drew favorable notices from critics and comparisons to R.E.M., the Velvet Underground and the Byrds. After two self-released albums, Rupe departed in 1991, while Salas-Humara continued to record for small independent labels under the Silos name.
