The shaped canvas became an important form of abstract painting in the 1960's as artists sought to create works of art that did not emulate nature, but were objects in themselves. Likewise, sculpture no longer simply emulated nature, but could be pure form as well. The paintings and sculptures in this exhibition assert the shape of the work of art as a dominant element. Some of the most important artists of this genre are represented, including Robert Mangold, John Chamberlain, Olivier Mosset, Steven Parrino and Timothy App.
