The notable Shanghai Quartet returns to the Modlin Center with guest artist Stephen Prutsman, who has been described as one of the most innovative musicians of his time. Moving easily from classical to jazz to world music styles as a pianist, composer, and conductor, Prutsman continues to explore and seek common ground in the music of all cultures and languages. Prutsman is also Artistic Director of the Cartagena International Festival of Music, South America’s largest festival of its kind, and has performed with major orchestras worldwide. His compositions have been commissioned and performed by notable artists and festivals such as Grammy® Award-winning Kronos Quartet, Dawn Upshaw, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Redman, and the Spoleto Festival. The evening’s program will include Mozart’s String Quartet, K. 458, “The Hunt”; a new piano quintet world premiere by Stephen Prutsman; and the Brahms Piano Quintet.
