A modern rendition of a classic commedia dell’arte piece explores ideas of stereotypes from the 16th century to now. Rather than utilizing traditional masks to ensure audience recognition of characters, this version employs stereotypical TV sitcom characters to signal the audience to each character’s essential personality. This adaptation came about from collaboration with the actors to explore both the Commedia characters and their respective sitcom characters. This classic, humorous tale of identity confusion creates new meaning when placed in the world of the modern sitcom.
