The Cliff House is a San Francisco landmark haunted by its other incarnations. First a small seaside eatery, then a “gingerbread palace,” and finally the modest box of a building we know today, it has been a destination for San Franciscans and visitors since the mid 19th century, and survived explosions, storms, earthquakes, fires, and good and bad economic times. Published in the centennial year of the current building, this illustrated history offers a marvelous tour of the Cliff House, past and present, supplemented with vintage photographs, postcards, and recipes.
