The fourth lecture in the 2011/12 Vice-Chancellor’s Lecture Series will be given by Lord Heseltine on Thursday 3 May 2012 in the Lady Hale Building and will commence at 18.00 and is open to staff, students, alumni and supporters of the University.

About the Lecture

He has written books on Europe and his political autobiography, Life in the Jungle. He is currently writing a book on urban regeneration, entitled Building Blocks. Lord Heseltine was a Member of Parliament in Britain from 1966 to 2001, first for Tavistock and then for Henley. He was a Cabinet Minister in various departments between 1979 and 1986 and between 1990 and 1997. He was Deputy Prime Minister and First Secretary of State between 1995 and 1997 and at various times he has served as Secretary of State for the environment, for defence and for trade and industry. In 2001 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Heseltine, of Thenford in the County of Northamptonshire.

He is founder and Chairman of the Haymarket Group, one of the largest privately owned media companies in the UK. Currently, for the Government, he is chairing an independent advisory panel for a £3.4 billion Regional Growth Fund and has been asked to lead an independent review into how UK businesses can compete even more effectively.
