The Canton Comic Opera Company will present a concert production of the 1909 operetta THE ROSE OF ALGERIA with music by Victor Herbert and Book and Lyrics by Glen MacDonough on Saturday, August 14 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, August 15 at 2:00 pm. The performances will be at the historic Canton Masonic Temple Auditorium, 836 Market Avenue North, Canton, Ohio 44702; a free, lighted parking lot is available directly behind the building. THE ROSE OF ALGERIA will feature a cast of 30 and a 32 piece orchestra directed by Joseph N. Rubin. Tickets are $10.00 for general admission. Victor Herbert’s lush, romantic score has been praised as one of his greatest and features “Rose of the World,” “Twilight in Barakeesh,” and “Ask Her While the Band is Playing.” Herbert wrote more than 40 operettas in his career including NAUGHTY MARIETTA (1910), SWEETHEARTS (1913) and THE RED MILL (1906).
